TOWN OF SHERMAN BOARD MEETING

May 9, 2017

 

The meeting was called to order by Chair Gerald Luke at 6:03 PM. Chair Gerald Luke stated all officers were present, with exception of treasurer Jerry Murrin, who had informed the Chair he would be late. Treasurer Jerry Murrin arrived at 6:12 PM. Chair Luke verified the agenda was placed in 4 locations and on the website. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

PUBLIC COMMENT & QUESTIONS –None

 

Reorganization of Town Board

 

Chair Luke made a motion to have G. Kessler as road superintendent. Supervisor Mikula seconded, motion passed.

Chair Luke nominated Gerry Mikula for recycling and nuisance ordinance supervisor. Supervisor Kessler seconded, motion passed.

Supervisor Mikula nominated Gerald Luke to be the liaison for first responders and fire department. Supervisor Kessler seconded, motion passed.

Chair Luke nominated Gary Kessler for supervisor for drug records. Supervisor Mikula seconded, motion passed.

Supervisor Mikula made a motion to adopt Roberts Rules of Order. Supervisor Kessler seconded, motion passed.

Supervisor Mikula made a motion to keep The Iron County Miner as official newspaper. Supervisor Kessler seconded, motion passed.

Supervisor Mikula made a motion to keep the town official bank the 1st National Bank of Park Falls. Supervisor Kessler seconded, motion passed.

Supervisor Kessler made a motion to keep Fritz Schellgell as the town attorney. Supervisor Mikula seconded, motion passed.

Supervisor Mikula made a motion that Gerald Luke be building and grounds supervisor. Supervisor Kessler seconded, motion passed.

 

4. COMMUNICATIONS/ANNOUNCEMENTS & REPORTS

CLERK - Amy Slone reported there were no building permits issued since the last town board meeting. The liquor license renewal forms have been distributed.

 

TREASURER - Jerry Murrin presented the monthly financial report for the month of April. Jerry also provided follow up information on what the town has paid Mercer Ambulance and Park Falls Ambulance over the years since 2007.

 

CHAIRPERSON – Gerald Luke provided information on Chair's activities and correspondence. He received a recommendation from the town attorney to re-bid the gravel crushing. Chair Luke attended the monthly first responder meeting. A letter will be written to send to all residents regarding ambulance services. He also received a letter from Flambeau Hospital that they will be purchasing a new ambulance in early Spring of 2018.

 

SUPERVISOR MIKULA - Supervisor Mikula stated that at the last recycling meeting the county accepted Eagle Waste. On May 17th there will be a county recycling meeting. Gerry Mikula and Jerry Luke will attend the RISE breakfast on economic development.

 

SUPERVISOR KESSLER – Supervisor Kessler has been meeting with the road crew each morning to keep good communication going. He talked with the highway commissioner who assisted in problem solving beaver management for Thomson Creek. He received 2 names for people in the area that could trap beavers that are causing problems. He has received some complaints regarding some downed trees, and will be contacting Price Electric for assistance in removal for some on Springstead Road. Gary will continue to survey the town roads. He also plans to contact the property owners prior to having trees taken down. He talked with Randy Palmer about purchasing gravel from him at a price of $5.55 per yard until the town is able to secure a new contractor for town gravel crushing. Chair Luke suggested having this on a future meeting agenda.

 

FIRE DEPARTMENT – Fire Chief Ron King stated that at the last Price County Fire Chiefs meeting he heard some are taking an online CPR course, then practical assessment in person. He is still meeting with Stacy Ofstad to put emergency government plan together. He is also meeting with the state safety department on 5/11/17.

 

FIRST RESPONDERS – Carol Matson stated Brad Matson is at a 6:00 PM Iron County meeting this date. There have been 2 first responder calls since the last town meeting.

 

IRON COUNTY SUPERVISOR –No report; not present.

 

PLANNING COMMISSION – Peter Hatch stated there was no new business.

 

SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER–No report; not present.

 

ACOUSTIC REMEDY COMMITTEE – Helen VanProoyen reported the committee has not heard from Jeff yet regarding post carpet installation acoustic evaluation.

 

Supervisor Mikula made a motion to approve twice monthly pay for the town highway crew. Supervisor Kessler seconded, motion passed.

 

Chair Luke made a motion to appoint Peter Hatch and Tom Mowbray to be plan commission members and Peter Hatch to be the plan commission president. Supervisor Mikula approved, Supervisor Kessler approved; motion carried.

 

Supervisor Mikula made a motion to approve the minutes. Supervisor Kessler seconded, motion passed. Chair Luke read the vouchers list and town supervisors reviewed vouchers. Supervisor Kessler made a motion to approve the vouchers as presented. Supervisor Mikula seconded; motion passed.

 

PUBLIC COMMENT/FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS- Ron King asked what is the status of the outside light at the town hall. Chair Luke will make an agenda item regarding outdoor lighting. Plan a board meeting for Friday 5/19/17 at 9:00AM. Board members will meet for road inspection on 5/16/19 at 9:00AM

 

Supervisor Mikula made a motion to adjourn. Supervisor Kessler seconded, motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 7:08 PM. Amy J. R. Slone, Clerk Minutes approved 6/13/2017.
